Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced AWS Greengrass, "software that lets you run local compute, messaging & data caching for connected devices in a secure way [snip], keep device data in sync, and communicate with other devices securely, [and] operate with intermittent connections, and minimize the cost of transmitting IoT data to the cloud.

The aim of AWS Greengrass is to allow IOT devices to "act locally on the data they generate, while still using the cloud for management, analytics, and durable storage".

The announcement is at https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2016/11/announcing-aws-greengrass-now-in-limited-preview/

and the product page is at:  https://aws.amazon.com/greengrass/
