I think IoT is an environment that existed in a hardwired way in many industries. Now it is getting interesting when we see "devices" communicating with a common protocol. a centralised and decentralised "command and control" where data can be gathered, analysed and then actioned. From automation (home and industry) to security systems, to networks of "community" devices that will allow us to "get" data when we need it to improve awareness on a number of fronts.
