Presented By: Dr Justin Blows, Phoenix Intellectual Property
Patents for essential Internet-of-Things (IoT) standards will be highly prized. But so will patents for IoT devices that are not merely the some-old-thing connected, but rather devices that are truly rooted in the IoT (“Unicorns”).
Recent decisions by US and Australian courts will have an enormous impact on the freedom of IoT companies to operate, who will have to “dodge dragons”. Intellectual property strategies to encourage investors will also need to change.
The decisions will shape IoT companies’ patent and commercial strategies, as well as challenge patent attorneys assisting IoT companies to protect their inventions.
Justin will discuss:
• Why IoT innovation and patent strategies need to be taken to the next level to obtain a competitive advantage;
• Why it will pay to be bold when moving into new IoT technology spaces covered by existing patents; and
• Why companies may need to keep more IoT technologies secret than before.
